Welcome to the Hub!

If you remember the Station Management Center which was first launched back in 2014, it was primarily geared towards GMs at PBS stations. Over time we added things like station and system-wide data and the steal this idea portfolio. Our membership grew from an initial 300 or so users, to well over 2,600. Eventually it became clear that the SMC needed to evolve into something new.

We started a related project last year to create a landing page for all PBS tools and services for stations. We heard your frustrations with not being able to find the PBS website or tool you needed because there are quite a few of them. The landing page was designed to be one place to reach all of those sites.

We started calling it "the Hub" during our internal discussions but soon it became clear that the best way for the SMC to evolve was to become the hub for landing pages like the one we were creating, plus the home for all of that station data, demographics, steal this idea, focused initiatives (like the opioid epidemic), an entire section devoted to the new editorial standards, and PBS department areas for Marketing, Business Intelligence, and the Digital Immersion Project.

In many cases you will click on a link on the Hub and it will take you to another site. We didn't want to re-invent the wheel and duplicate what already exists elsewhere, but rather to take you to where you need to go if it is something that doesn't live on this particular site.

We want to make sure you can find what you need, when you need it. As this site is brand new, there will be room for improvement! Tell us if something doesn't work right, or doesn't work as you'd expect, and if you can't find it right away. Rather than think of the site as "finished" we plan to continue improving it over time.

Ideas for Your Station

We have a collection of ideas and station initiatives that keeps on growing. We started with the Steal this Idea portfolio, and later added the Local Initiatives Surrounding the Opioid Epidemic and on to Disability Initiatives and Veterans Initiatives. Our plan is to also add an Arts Initiatives area soon.

Tools & Resources

The main Departments & Tools page will take you to all of the various tools, websites, and resources that PBS has to offer to member stations. Underneath that main page on the menu are links to PBS departments that have their own area on the Hub such as Marketing and Business Intelligence.

You can also explore the PBS Orientation for new employees, and modify or add to your PBS newsletter subscriptions (you can also modify your subscriptions under My Account).

Managing Your Station

The Managing Your Station area is all about helping you run your station or contribute to running your station, with the PBS Policies & By-laws, Diversity & Inclusion resources, and station strategic plans

Editorial Standards includes learning modules to walk you through the new editorial standards & practices published this summer. There are case studies and quizzes.

Collaboration Tools

If you haven't done so already, join us on Our Neighborhood for discussions and ask questions. All PBS member station employees are welcome!

Public Media System

This area is all about the public media system as a whole and includes spectrum auction repacking materials, federal funding resources and the PTMMG, or Major Market Group

Learn about the organization, its initiatives and meet the board and staff. Members will find past meeting resources and members’ only info in the Members Only section.
