Dreamers Doers Destiny

Note: this is a series of our blog posts looking at stories and activities of PBS Member Stations.

“My dream is to be a Tesla technician,” declared Jazmin Powell, a high school student who participated in PBS Charlotte’s American Graduate: Getting to Work 3-D project “Dreamers Doers Destiny.” PBS Charlotte’s most highlighted program of 2018 sets out to help teens prepare themselves for their future career paths. It began with a class of 30 students at Vance High School and expanded to include 50 students from Garinger High School, and later reached 225 graduates in the program.” PBS Charlotte created a three-part campaign to teach youths how they could transform their dreams into reality by encouraging them to be “doers” not just “dreamers.” The main goal of this four-year community engagement programwas to serve by 2021 at least 700 students in Title I schools across Charlotte. PBS Charlotte also aims to continue its partnership with Central Piedmont Community College and to keep growing their viewership through on-air and social media content.
