Families Read was WYCC’s flagship literacy program in 2016. The station hosted a series of storytelling performances and workshops at Chicago area libraries, schools and daycare centers. Events focused on educators, parents and children to raise awareness on the importance of establishing a regular reading habit with children. WYCC gave away hundreds of books to participating parents and children, including Why Mosquitos Buzz in Peoples Ears and Martha Speaks. Parents were also made aware of the many resources available through PBS Parents and PBS Kids.
