The Mission Continues
The Mission Continues offers opportunities for veterans and civilians to give back to the community and become stronger citizens in the process.
In this project, veterans working with The Mission Continues to re-enter civilian life would identify skills or interest in satellite/RF maintenance and operation. Through PBS' Stories of Service project, these veterans would be linked up with a local PBS station for a 3–6 month volunteer fellowship. During the fellowship, the veterans would be embedded in the station's daily operations while building skills in transmitter technology. The Member Station benefits by gaining a valuable asset with needed skills, and the veteran benefits by gaining on-the-job experience to advance their civilian career.
HOW IT WORKS
- The Mission Continues works with PBS to identify veterans with the appropriate skill sets.
- Veterans work with The Mission Continues to develop and write up fellowship programs and goals.
- PBS Coordinates with Member Stations that need satellite and RF help to place the veterans in volunteer programs.
- Station hosts a volunteer veteran for 3-6 months to provide skill building in a civilian setting and gain needed technical support.
